During surgery is it normal for urine to be used to wash down surgical field?

During surgery is it normal for urine to be used to wash down surgical field? I watched a surgery once where the tube from the the bladder was cut, and during the procedure the surgeon used the actual urine to wash down the surgical field. The surgeon said that the urine was sterile and also contains some beneficial proteins and that is why it was okay. He simply used it to clean the patients insides and suction away. My girlfriend doesn't believe me. Can someone tell me is this standard practice? What is this practice called (so I can google it)? Help and ty :D
