I don't understand fireman lingo..?

For example them explaining this: "I was with Engine 7, Ladder 1, Ladder 8 and another engine" Whats that mean? What is the engine or ladder? Can you just break this down and make it simple. And if you have any sites or information on 'fireman lingo' could you post? Thanks!
