In toothpastes like aquafresh, how do they keep the colors all separate so that they look like stripes?

i have cut open a tube to see if there was 2 compartments, there wasn't. i also mashed up a fresh tube, it still came out straight. then for a camping trip i put some tooth paste into a smaller tube using a straw and it still came out straight. makes one wonder what spell that they use while making it. if you find this question to be mind boggling mark it interesting so the company will answer.
