Safely remove hardware when i don't have anything connected?

an icon appears on the bottom right corner of my screen saying safely remove hardware when i don't have anything connected. I click it and then click safely remove hardware and it says "Ricoh SD/MMC Disk Device can now safely be removed and so it goes away, but then i put my memory card in from my camera and that comes up again. so basically my laptop won't read anything anymore :/ what do ido?
