Is joining the army/navy/etc considered being pro-war irrespective of the reason behind joining it?

I believe that as an American, each of us owes something to this country. Some of us serve in the military. Not because we are pro-war, but because we believe it is worth defending. At least, it was when I served. I've been retired since 1998.
